چکیده

The test is an application of the method originally described by Boyden (1951) and adapted by Stavitsky and Arquilla (1958). Sera which contain anti-Panton-Valentine leucocidin agglutinate the prepared red cells, often to a very high dilution, and this has provided a useful serological test for the diagnosis of staphylococcal disease in orthopaedic lesions. The test is quicker as a routine investigation than the bioscopic method previously described by Towers and Gladstone (1958).

Community-acquired infections due to Staphylococcus argenteus lineage isolates harbouring the Panton-Valentine leucocidin, France, 2014.

We describe two cases of human infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus clonal complex (CC) 75, also called Staphylococcus argenteus, harbouring the Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL). These two sporadic cases were community-acquired, and identified in France in 2014. Both had an epidemiological link with Mayotte, an overseas department of France located in the Indian Ocean off the south-easte...

Success stories about severe pneumonia caused by Panton-Valentine leucocidin-producing Staphylococcus aureus.

We describe three cases of community-acquired necrotizing pneumonia which were caused by Panton-Valentine leucocidin-producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus (one of them methicillin sensitive). All cases were successfully treated without any sequelae for the patients due to the prompt initiation of adequate antimicrobial therapy. High suspicion toward this fatal pathogen was the key to the s...

Classification of 110 Strains of Staphylococcus aureus.

A collection of strains of Staphylococcus aureus was studied with a view to finding out what relationship, if any, could be detected between the agglutinative grouping and the production of polysaccharide, alpha hemolysin, or leucocidin by the various strains. A number of serological groupings for staphylococci have been described in the literature, the most recent ones being those of Blair and...

A brief history of Staphylococcus aureus Panton Valentine leucocidin

The history of Panton Valentine leucocidin (PVL), one of the toxins of Staphylococcus aureus, began in 1894, 24 years after Sir Alexander Ogston and Louis Pasteur had reproduced human pyemic infections in mice and rabbits by inoculating pus or pus-derived cultures (11,14). The torch of PVL research was then handed down over the decades between small groups of scientists fascinated by S. aureus ...

Transmission of a Panton-Valentine leucocidin-positive, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain between humans and a dog.

Panton-Valentine leucocidin-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains with identical resistance patterns were cultured from recurrent infections of a 51-year-old patient, her healthy husband, son, and dog, and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis showed that all MRSA strains were indistinguishable.
